How to prevent shootings like Colorado shooting

I was talking to someone at church this morning at the Colorado shooting. I asked in frustration, “What can we as a society do to prevent such things.” His answer was quick, simple, direct: “We should all carry guns.” It does occur to me if a dozen people in that theater were carrying guns he shooter probably wouldn’t have gotten a third shot off.
