I am just a normal guy with a big, big dream.

I would like to ask you to help.

My dream is to help the church double in the next 20 years.

I want to help my denomination reach 20 million in Sunday School attendance by the year 2020. I want to see the number of God-worshiping people double in the next 20 years. I want to ask you to help.

I often asked my seminar host at the end of a trip, "What advice do you have for me?" One host wisely responded, "I think you are going to need a lot of help." He is right. I am going to need a lot of help. I want to ask you to help.

You can do three things to help the church double in the next 20 years.

  • Learn it. 2020 Vision stands committed to teaching you to double your class every two years or less. We can double the worldwide church in the next 20 years by helping Sunday School teachers and small group leaders to double every two years or less. We have videos, online lessons, seminars, and this E-newsletter as resources to help you learn to double. Help me by getting your fellow teachers, or pastors you know to join this list.
  • Live it. Pastors often say to me, "I know the Double Your Class system will work; how do I get my people to work it?" The #1 thing is to lead by example. If the staff alone are in classes and doubling those classes every two years or less, it will normally result in 15% growth--enough to double the entire church in 5 years or less. On the other hand, if the staff cannot figure out how to double a class every two years or less, it is not likely they will lead anyone else to do what they do not do themselves.
  • Teach it.  If you know how to double a class every two years or less, I want to invite you to teach others. I am in a lot of doubling churches. Most of them are thinking about how they can grow faster, do better, do more. I think there is a better question. If you are a teacher of a fast growing class, I have an invitation for you. If you are the pastor or a staff member of a doubling church, I have an invitation for you. Rather than think about how you can go from being a top 1% church, I would like to invite you to focus your energy into teaching others what you know.

Where are you on this journey? Have you learned to double your class? If not, learn it!

Do you know how to double your class? Live it! We need examples in every church that it is possible to double a group every two years or less.

Are you doubling a class every two years or less? Teach it to others. One way to do this is to ask fellow pastors you know, and fellow Sunday School teachers to join this list. This email list gives me the opportunity to give regular instruction, inspiration and vision casting about doubling.

I have asked God many times why He gave me this dream. I don't pastor a large, nationally known church. I don't hold a high level denominational position. I am just a normal guy with a big, big dream. I want to ask you to help. The dream is to double. It is all about one word: double.

Jesus told us about two faithful servants who doubled and one who didn't. To the two who doubled the Master said, "Well done." To the one who didn't, he said, "You wicked, lazy servant." I want to be the faithful servant who doubles.

I want to ask you to help.

How to Create Spiritually Vibrant People

We all know that groups help people grow spiritually. Jesus grew his disciples in a group, and we must follow His example. To quote a line from Andy Stanley, "Disciples are made in a circle."

But, what EXACTLY happens in a small group that helps people to grow? Specifically. . .

  • I like application-oriented teaching, but can we demonstrate that application-oriented teaching actually helps people grow?

  • I like discussion-oriented small groups, but do discussion-oriented small groups actually produce spiritually vibrant people any better than lecture groups?

  • Does being loved by the teacher and members of the group actually produce spiritually vibrant people?

I am seeking to answer these questions and others with the new survey on spiritual vibrancy. I’d like to invite you to fill out the survey. All of the questions relate to what happens in a small group, so please only respond if you are currently in a Sunday School class or small group.

P.S.

I have two other surveys currently running, one for teacher/leaders of groups, the other for group participants. If you have not filled out these surveys, I’d invite you to do that as well.
