Think about your most treasured friends. I would guess that there was a process from the time you first met to the time when you called that person friend. Remember the initial enjoyment, the eagerness to be together more, the discovery of common interests? C. S. Lewis explains it this way: “Friendship is born at the moment when one says to another, ‘What, you too? I thought no one but myself … ’ ” (The Four Loves).
