Christian-Hospitality-FRONTIt doesn’t work everywhere. Let me tell you some stories where it doesn’t work to help you to clarify how it can.

One guy said to me, “I love your book. I love your ideas. I especially love the idea of giving Friday night to Jesus. Love that idea.”

“How is it working?” I asked. I am always curious to hear another success story.

“Oh, I don’t do it; I just think it is a great idea.” It wasn’t working in his case.

Another guy came to me and said, “I don’t think it will work in my case.”

“Really? Why not?” I quizzed.

“I don’t really like to do anything.” he answered.

“Come on, there has got to be some things you like to do. Think about it.” I said.

“Nope. I don’t really like to do anything. And, what is more, I am married to a very boring woman. She doesn’t like to do anything either. We are just two happy little clams staying home doing nothing together,” he stated.

I pushed him further. “Come on, now, there has to be something you like to do.”

“Well, now that you push me, I can think of one thing. Once a year we like to go into the city and attend the opera.”
Opera. How are you doing with opera? Do you like opera? Do you like opera well enough to have paid money to attend in the last twelve months? I didn’t think so. I am told about 2% of the population enjoys opera music. So, this guy’s situation is, once a year he likes to do what 2% of the population enjoys. In light of that fact, I told him, “You better get a visitation program going. Hire an evangelist. Put on a crusade. Get on T.V. There are a lot of ways you can do evangelism. I don’t think this one is going to work for you.”
